BetGoodwin Review UK November 2024 – 50% of First Day Losses Back as Free Bet

Overview

BetGoodwin is an up-and-coming UK sports betting site with something of a unique history. It is the online off-shoot of Goodwin Racing, a telephone-only horse racing betting service that has been running since 1997. In our BetGoodwin review, we look at everything this UK betting site has to offer its customers.

BetGoodwin: An Overview

betgoodwin NEW 1Goodwin Racing was kicked into being in an East Sussex retail unit in 1997. People who couldn’t (or couldn’t be bothered to) visit their local betting shop were able to open an account over the phone, and then call Goodwin Racing up any day they wanted to place their horse racing bets. You can still set up an account at Goodwin Racing today, although despite an online presence, that must still be done over the telephone.

In 2022 Goodwin Racing decided to give online sports betting a go and launched the BetGoodwin sports betting platform with established sportsbook software vendors FSB Technology providing the bones of the site. In an attempt to lure Goodwin Racing customers to the sports betting platform, they were offered a maximum of one hundred free bet refunds if their bets failed under specific circumstances. Goodwin Racing customers were also able to use their existing account to transfer funds to their new BetGoodwin account.

After a slow start, BetGoodwin has grown to become a particularly popular betting site, especially with people happy just to bet on horse racing.

Date founded: 1997.

Ownership: Goodwin Racing.

Headquarters: United Kingdom.

Address: 4 Kingfisher Court, Uckfield, East Sussex, TN22 1QQ.

Licence No.: 2927.

BetGoodwin do not seem to have ventured too greatly into the realm of sports sponsorship. Their most high-profile deal was made in April 2023, when they were named as the new sponsor of the Spring Cup at Newbury racecourse. We can find no evidence of further sponsorship efforts by this sports betting site.

Safety and Security at BetGoodwin

Did you know that BetGoodwin has one of the longest-running UKGC licences on record? Their initial licence was handed to them in 2009, which covered them for general betting as they (as Goodwin Racing) were a telephone betting service. Licences for online betting in the UK were not needed until 2015, and BetGoodwin secured theirs in 2018 in preparation for a sideways step onto the internet. They added further licences in 2023 for bingo, casino and virtual betting events.

Despite the longevity of BetGoodwin’s licence, it remains unblemished, which is great to see. Goodwin Racing’s track record certainly is one to be admired.

You can be extra-reassured that BetGoodwin is safe and secure as it uses the FSB Technology sports betting software that many other sites also use. FBS’s record is not so unblemished, but that’s nothing to do with BetGoodwin who are purely responsible for the safety of their customers and their customer’s data. All information you send over the internet to BetGoodwin is encrypted by industry-standard tools, making it indecipherable to third parties.

BetGoodwin New Customer Offer

If you are brand new to BetGoodwin, then the BetGoodwin welcome offer is available to you. This will give you back half of your first-day sports betting losses as a free bet, up to a maximum value of £25. Read on to discover what you need to do to claim this BetGoodwin new customer offer.

First up you need to make a minimum deposit of £30 in order to claim the BetGoodwin welcome offer. Following that, you need to make a minimum of three bets of £10 or more on separate sports betting markets at odds of Evens (2.00) at least. Once you’ve done that, you are entitled to your refund.

At the end of the day (23:59) in which you placed your first qualifying bet, your wins and losses will be totted up and if you are in the red, then half of your losses up to that maximum value of £25 will be handed back to you as free bets. As far as we can tell your free bets do not come with any restrictions on how you can use them, but as is custom with free bets your stake is not returned when you use them if they win.

BetGoodwin Existing Customer Offers

BetGoodwin offers a number of promotions for existing customers, which is good news as their welcome offer only lasts a day! Below we take a good look at each of these offers, and how can benefit from them.

BetGoodwin Free Bet Refunds

BetGoodwin has been offering free bet refunds since day one, and we are pleased to see that they are still on offer. If you place a minimum £10 win or each way single on any UK/Irish horse race and your pick fails for any of the reasons below then the win part of your bet will be refunded as a free bet up to £100. This is cash stakes only, not ante-post markets or multiples or system bets.

  • Finishes second, beaten by the official distance of a nose
  • Finishes second, beaten by a horse priced at least 50/1
  • Falls at the last when leading
  • Beaten by under half a length in a chase

BetGoodwin Best Odds Guaranteed

This site offers BetGoodwin best odds guaranteed on BetGoodwin horse racing in the UK and Ireland, and BetGoodwin greyhounds. It does not apply to ante-post betting markets, special markets or international racing, or bets placed before 10am on the day of the race. This deal means that you will be paid out at the most beneficial price – the starting price or the price at which you placed your bet. The maximum benefit, which is the difference in winnings between the Starting Price (SP) and bet placement price, is £1,000.

BetGoodwin Key Features

Okay, so that is the past history of BetGoodwin dealt with, as well as details of the BetGoodwin sign-up offer and other promotions. Let’s now take a step forward and look through what the actual BetGoodwin site can offer to you.

BetGoodwin Sports Betting Markets

Given BetGoodwin’s horse racing past, it comes as no surprise that horse racing features so prominently at the BetGoodwin site. However there is plenty more to wager upon at this sports betting site, and you can see the complete list of available markets below.

  • Alpine Skiing
  • American Football
  • Australian Rules
  • Baseball
  • Basketball
  • Boxing
  • Cricket
  • Cross Country
  • Cycling
  • Darts
  • eSports
  • Football
  • Futsal
  • GAA Football
  • GAA Hurling
  • Golf
  • Greyhounds
  • Handball
  • Horse Racing
  • Ice Hockey
  • MMA
  • Motor Sports
  • Politics
  • Rugby League
  • Rugby Union
  • Ski Jumping
  • Snooker
  • Specials
  • Table Tennis
  • Tennis
  • Virtual Sports
  • Volleyball
  • Waterpolo

That’s 33 markets, which should be enough to placate most sports bettors. We can’t put our finger on anything that’s really a stand-out absentee. It’s worth remembering that it’s FSB Technology that choose the markets at BetGoodwin, not BetGoodwin themselves.

BetGoodwin In Play Betting

Naturally, BetGoodwin has an in-play section. The look and feel – despite the BetGoodwin branding – should be familiar to any sports bettor who has used an FSB Tech site before (and there are a decent number of them). The emphasis here is on BetGoodwin football (as horse racing is not really suited to live betting) but basically any sport that is being played can be wagered upon.

The main ‘1X2’ odds are given for each event on the live betting page, as well as anything else particularly of interest. The full number of markets is easy to uncover though – just click on the small number at the right-hand side of each event to get the full info on all available markets.

BetGoodwin Live Streaming and Commentary

BetGoodwin does offer some live streaming, but it is almost wholly centred upon horse racing. As well as UK and Ireland horse racing, live streaming of the day’s top races feature from France, the US, Brazil and Argentina. Greyhounds are also available to be live-streamed streamed but only from the UK and Ireland. Aside from such events, other live-streaming options are practically non-existent.

BetGoodwin Betting Odds

BetGoodwin is not responsible for setting their betting odds – that responsibility falls to FSB Tech, their software provider. So, all sites that use FSB Tech will have identical odds. The odds are certainly competitive, as FSB Tech can afford to be, although they cannot match the biggest UK betting sites for maximum returns. If you want decent returns though, the odds at BetGoodwin cannot be faulted, so you won’t have a dire need to look elsewhere.

If betting odds confuse you, we offer a complete guide of how betting odds work.

BetGoodwin Betting Limits

The minimum accepted stake at BetGoodwin is only ten pence. We have seen lower limits elsewhere but we feel that ten pence for a bet is perfectly acceptable. There is no defined upper limit but of course, you have to take BetGoodwin’s maximum payouts into consideration. The maximum amount you can win in 24 hours at BetGoodwin is a ‘mere’ £100,000. That sounds like a lot of money but some other sites have maximum payouts twenty times that. For most sports beyond BetGoodwin racing online and football it can be as low as £50,000. It’s down to £10,000 for non-sports and as low as £5,000 for ‘other’ greyhound racing. It’s clear BetGoodwin is not a site for high rollers.

In terms of deposits and withdrawals, the minimum deposit is £10, which is acceptable. You can withdraw any amount but withdrawals below £10 have to be cleared through the customer service team.

BetGoodwin Customer Service

Speaking of customer service, here are the details of how you can get in contact with them at BetGoodwin. The site does not have any FAQs, which is a real shocker, although the ‘terms and conditions’ and ‘betting rules’ have plenty of pertinent information:

  • BetGoodwin live chat: available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
  • BetGoodwin email: [email protected].
  • BetGoodwin contact phone number: 0800 421 321 (phone betting but they may be able to help).

We’re happy to report that so far, the bots have failed to invade BetGoodwin. If you use live chat here, you will be put through to a real person within one minute – hurrah!

Other Notable Features at BetGoodwin

There isn’t really anything above the basics at BetGoodwin, and we are surprised that features such as a bet builder and enhanced odds are unavailable. The only ‘other’ betting option beyond the norm at BetGoodwin that we could find was virtual sports. These computer simulations are available every three minutes or so, and the sports you can bet on are horse racing (flat, jumps and sprints), football, greyhounds, cycling and motor racing. The standard of the video is truly excellent, although no one would be fooled into thinking it’s the real thing.

How to Start Betting at BetGoodwin

Creating your own account at BetGoodwin is not difficult at all, and the process is one of the most streamlined we’ve seen anywhere. Just in case you’ve never opened a sports betting account before, we are going to go through the entire process for you. (Please feel free to take a look at our How to Bet Online guide.)

  1. The first step is of course to visit the BetGoodwin site, which you can do by clicking the link below:
  2. On the home page, click the ‘Join Now’ button.
  3. Once the site has verified that you’re not one of those pesky robot types, add your name, date of birth and phone number to the registration screen.Betgoodwin Registration Page.jpg
  4. On step two, add your email and choose a username and password that you are unlikely to forget. There is a space to add a ‘coupon code’ but at the moment you do not need to add one for the BetGoodwin sign up offer.
  5. Unusually, you are also asked to add your occupation and annual salary. We are guessing this is to protect BetGoodwin from gamblers who find gambling responsibly a tough ask. Once everything is filled in, hit the ‘Complete’ button.Betgoodwin Football Betting.jpg
  6. Now that you have your BetGoodwin login head to the cashier, register a debit card and deposit a minimum £30. Place a minimum 3 x £10 bets to trigger the BetGoodwin new customer bonus of half back of your first-day losses.

BetGoodwin app review

BetGoodwin does have apps, although they don’t make any kind of song or dance about it. You won’t even find them referenced on the BetGoodwin home page, or anywhere on the site for some reason.

To hunt down the apps, head to Google Play or the Apple App Store, depending on your device’s OS. You may be able to download the apk file for Android from other sources, but that’s not something we recommend.

Betgoodwin app racing

The BetGoodwin app brings you all the goodness of BetGoodwin on mobile. You can still use the BetGoodwin site on your phone and/or tablet without an app – just use your normal mobile browser for internet access and navigate your way to the site. There is no real difference between the app and mobile browser versions of the site, so how you choose to access BetGoodwin away from your PC or laptop is really down to you.

BetGoodwin review: Deposits & Withdrawals

Here is where BetGoodwin gets really limited, as many other BetGoodwin reviews have pointed out. The site’s only accepted payment method is debit cards, Visa or MasterCard. BetGoodwin does not accept any eWallets, or PaysafeCard, or bank transfers, or Trustly … just debit cards. The minimum deposit is £10, and the minimum (automatic) withdrawal is £10 too. You can request withdrawals below a tenner via customer support. The BetGoodwin withdrawal time can be as brief as half an hour for Visa cards, but also up to five days.

Concise details about BetGoodwin’s limited payment methods can be found below:

Payment Method Min. Deposit Fees Min. Withdrawal BetGoodwin Withdrawal Time
Visa debit £10 Free No minimum 30 mins – 5 days
MasterCard debit £10 Free No minimum 1 – 5 days

BetGoodwin Casino Review

BetGoodwin offers a casino, which too is provided by FSB Tech. The site can provide over 500 games, and FSB Tech says it has provider relationships with 50 or so casino software providers, including Microgaming and Evolution. The content catalogue at FSB Tech, and therefore BetGoodwin, is kept fresh with new titles being added on a daily basis.

betgoodwin casino

All this means you can play slots and games from many leading providers, but sadly king of the slots (in our opinion anyway) NetEnt is conspicuous by its absence. There are more than enough decent alternatives anyhow, and we are pleased to see another of our favourite providers, Pragmatic Play, has made it onto the roster. This means their ‘Drops & Wins’ feature where random prizes are awarded … randomly … is available.

A shout-out to the live casino too, which is mainly Evolution and Pragmatic Play. This has over two dozen versions of blackjack plus eight versions of roulette and eleven live game show titles. Other games such as baccarat and casino poker are available. All of BetGoodwin’s casino goodness can be enjoyed on phones and tablets too.

BetGoodwin Pros & Cons

There is a slight imbalance of positives and negatives when it comes to BetGoodwin, which hopefully you will have noticed when reading through our BetGoodwin review. If you haven’t … then go and stand on the naughty step for five minutes then read the summary of pros and cons noted below.

What We Like:

  • Tops for Horse Racing – With BetGoodwin’s background from Goodwin Racing it’s no surprise horse racing is very good here. We particularly like the live streaming from places as far-flung as Argentina and Brazil.
  • Decent Casino – Yes, we know this is mainly a sports betting review but we do like the BetGoodwin casino.
  • Track Record – BetGoodwin has an exemplary history, both as BetGoodwin and Goodwin Racing.
  • Decent Bonus – Getting back 50% of your first-day losses is a decent deal.
  • No Bots Here – Live support is bot-free.

Room for improvement:

  • Not Much To It – You can place bets here and play at the casino, but that’s about it.
  • Any Payment Method As Long As It’s a Debit Card – says it all, really.
  • Low Maximum Payouts – maximum payout limit of £100,000 is just too low.

BetGoodwin Review – Final Thoughts

BetGoodwin is one of the best online betting sites for horse racing and it is decent for everything else but … there are several aspects that this sports betting site needs to improve on. For example, those maximum payout limits are far too low, and only £5,000 for some greyhound races is ridiculously meagre. Adding more payment methods is another must as not everyone is keen to stick their debit card numbers into the internet and prefer the buffer of an eWallet.

There are positives too – horse racing streaming, a decent casino and live support that has yet to be invaded by the bots. If you can turn a blind eye to a handful of small limitations, then BetGoodwin could be just the sports betting site you are looking for.
