Fitzdares claims a history back to 1882, thanks to farmer-cum-bookmaker Tom Guntrip. T. Guntrip Ltd (which remained a family-run London bookie) was purchased by rivals Sunderlands (nothing to do with the Wearside city) in 1982, who themselves were purchased by Fitzdares in 2016.
Fitzdares had been founded in 2005 by Balthazar Fabricius as a telephone-only bookmaker. In 2020 Fitzdares opened a private members club in Mayfair where members could place bets, fine dine and play games such as cribbage and backgammon.
This betting site launched online as an app in 2018, with a traditional betting platform added soon after. Initially centred upon horse racing betting, Fitzdares has since expanded into multiple sports, adding a casino, live casino, virtual sports and fantasy sports. It has even expanded beyond the UK, being granted a licence in Ontario, Canada.

Safety and Security at Fitzdares
The first thing we must say about safety and security for our Fitzdares bookmaker review is that this site has so far escaped UKGC sanction and boasts a clean bill of health in the regulatory department. Fitzdares In-Play Betting
Right at the top of the left-hand menu at Fitzdares you will see the ‘In-Play’ option. There is also a big red number outlining the number of in-play markets that are currently available. This number will of course vary depending on the time of day.
The main options seem to be football, tennis, basketball, darts, snooker, rugby union, golf, rugby league, table tennis and eSports, although again it depends on the time of day you are accessing the Fitzdares UK site as to what is on offer. One nice touch – if there’s nothing currently live you find desirable, you can see what’s about to start in terms of markets in the next three hours, twelve hours or 24 hours.
There is an exceptional number of live markets for the most popular sports. For example, for top-end football matches most had at least 150 markets. For other sports it’s a lower number, but still acceptable.
Fitzdares Live Streaming and Commentary
At the Fitzdares Club you can watch the sporting action as you place your bets, but what if you don’t fancy the trip down to Mayfair? Can you stream sports via the Fitzdares sports betting site?
The short answer is … it depends. All UK and most international horse races are available for live streaming (as long as you have an account at Fitzdares and are logged in). UK and Irish Greyhound races are available for streaming too.
Beyond that … it’s diddly-squat, which is disappointing. The site does offer graphical representations of live sports, but it’s hardly as good as watching the real thing.
Fitzdares Betting Odds
Like all FSB Tech-run sites, Fitzdares do not set their own odds, but rely on the odds as set by FSB Tech themselves. We’ve always been aware of FSB Tech, and we know that their odds are always nicely competitive. If you place a Fitzdares bet here you won’t have to go looking for more competitive odds elsewhere.
A bit of a shocker here, considering this site’s reputation in regards to Fitzdares horse racing, is that the site does not offer ‘best odds guaranteed’ to ‘normal tier’ members. This is where winning bets are always paid out at the better price – the SP or the price at which you place your bets. It’s a real shame that Fitzdares does not seem to offer this for the hoi polloi.
Fitzdares Betting Limits
The minimum stake at Fitzdares is 10p, and you can’t place a bet for any less than that. There is no maximum, although you need to bear in mind Fitzdares’ maximum payouts before you start plonking a million on Man City to beat Luton Town. It took us a while, when preparing this Fitzdares review, to locate the maximum payouts, which is a bit of a shame.
The maximum payout online at Fitzdares is £250,000 per calendar day, which is a standard amount across the industry. This means if you somehow win £500,000 with a bet here, you will only be paid £250,000.
Fitzdares Customer Service
There is a lack of FAQs at Fitzdares. But before you hold your hands up in disgust, we must explain one thing – Fitzdares really does not need FAQs as it offers a very good phone service. Other Notable Features at Fitzdares
There’s a lack of ‘other’ features here, such as a bet builder, but we did find the following:
Fitzdares Fantasy: These are fantasy bet games that cost around £5 to play. For one fantasy game, you need to make eight predictions based on selected EPL matches. These could be ‘Will Bukary Saka score?’ or ‘Will Declan Rice be booked?’. You need to get at least six predictions correct to make it to the next round. Play continues until only one entrant remains, who takes home the top prize, which is usually around £500.
Fitzdares Virtuals: There are quite a few virtual sports betting sites in the UK. While Fitzdares doesn’t have the biggest range of virtual sports that we’ve seen, it does have some of the most popular ones. The full list of virtuals that you can bet on here is as follows:

Fitzdares Mobile App
As far as we can tell, Fitzdares began life as an app, and then became a desktop site which is the other way around as far as most betting brands go. Apps are available for Fitzdares still, although that’s perhaps not clear when you hunt around the desktop site.
If you want a Fitzdares app on your devices, go to the App Store if you’re using an iPhone or an iPad, or Google Play for Android. Download and install the apps just as you would any other kind of app.
All the options via the app are the same as the desktop site – indeed the ‘Fitzdares app’ is just a no-navigation web browser locked to the Fitzdares home page. It’s a little cumbersome and slow in all honesty. It’s the same experience as using the site via a mobile browser, so the choice is yours.

Not many betting sites go on the same wagering journey as Fitzdares has – London bookmaker to exclusive London ‘Gentleman’s Club’ to betting app to betting site. This company has come a long way since 1882 (although we think links to past histories are a little tenuous) and can now provide a very good betting experience for all members, mainly thanks to the excellent sports betting software from FSB Technology.
Not all is rosy, though. Accepting only debit cards as a payment method is not enough, and neither is offering ‘best odds guaranteed’ only to ‘exclusive members’.
