Spreadex: An Overview

Spreadex sports logoSpreadex was founded in 1999 by Jonathan Hufford, who was formerly a City trader. Hufford’s aim was to establish a spread betting site that would make it both easy and enjoyable for customers to bet on financial markets. The site caught on quickly, and in 2006 it also started offering Spreadex sports betting markets for those who wanted to make spread bets on football, horse racing, tennis and more.

Spread betting can be exciting, but it isn’t something that you do casually by any means. And it isn’t an approach that suits everyone. For that reason, in 2010, the company introduced Spreadex fixed odds betting markets that work in exactly the same way as they do at traditional betting sites. This was a great move by the company, and it established Spreadex as a ‘one-stop shop’ with something to suit all kinds of bettors.

Today, Spreadex is thriving, and is widely regarded as one of the best betting sites in the UK. It has won a slew of awards for everything from its customer services to the value it offers in its Premier League fixed odds markers. The company has been a partner of West Bromwich Albion Football Club since the 2022/23 season, and it became the title sponsor of the snooker World Grand Prix in 2024.

Safety and Security at Spreadex

As a spread betting company, Spreadex is authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. And because it offers fixed odds betting markets as well, it’s also licenced and regulated by the the UK Gambling Commission. That means it has to pass muster with not one but two extremely strict regulatory bodies, so you can expect safety and security here to be as watertight as it gets.

All of your personal data is kept secure at all times, and none of your information will be shared with third parties. Financial transactions with Spreadex are secured using industry-standard encryption protocols, and customer funds are held in a segregated bank account.

Spreadex is also committed to Responsible Gambling and has a variety of tools available to help you stay in control of your betting. These include the ability to set limits on deposits and request timeouts. Self-exclusion is also available.

Spreadex Welcome Offer

The Spreadex fixed odds betting offer for new customers is worth up to £40 in free bets. Simply sign up for a new account, make a deposit and place a £10 fixed odds bet at odds of 1/2 (1.50) or bigger. That will qualify you for two free fixed odds bets worth £10 each, two Total Goals spread betting football bets worth £5 each, two Winning Favourites spread bets worth £5 each, and a Race Index spread bet worth £1.

No special promo code is needed to take advantage of this offer. However, you need to make sure that you use each Spreadex free bet within 28 days, or it will expire.

Spreadex Existing Customer Offers

When you’ve enjoyed your Spreadex sign-up offer and settled in nicely, you can take advantage of several other offers that are designed for existing customers. The offers available at the time of this Spreadex review being published are as follows:

First Past the Post

This is a horse racing betting offer for UK and Irish races that will settle your bet as a winner if your horse finishes in first place but is then demoted for causing interference. Of course, a bet on the horse that gets promoted will also be settled as a winner.

Lucky Double Odds

Those of you who like to make Lucky 15, Lucky 31 or Lucky 63 bets and only manage to get one winner will get double the odds thanks to this offer. It applies to both horse racing and betting on Greyhound Racing. Note that the offer doesn’t apply if you have one or more non-runners in the bet.

‘2nd to a Rag’ Insurance

Another Spreadex horse racing offer is 2nd to a Rag Insurance. This will give you your stake back – as a free bet of up to £25 – if your horse finishes second to a horse with an SP of 33/1 or bigger. Only the first single winner bet in a given race will qualify for this offer.

Acca Boosts up to 75%

Make an accumulator bet with three or more legs from qualifying football markets. If the bet succeeds, your acca payout will be boosted by a certain percentage. The more legs that you have in the bet, the bigger that percentage will be. A winning treble will be boosted by 5%, and a winning acca with 16 legs will be boosted by a whopping 75%.

Spread-Free Bets

This is an offer aimed at Spreadex spread betting fans. It will let you have a spread-free bet on certain markets when you qualify by making three sports spread bets in qualifying markets for the same sport within 10 minutes. Most of the best sports to bet on are compatible with this offer, so be sure to take a look at it if you like making spread bets.

Each Spreadex sportsbook offer outlined above has its own set of terms and conditions. Those can and do change from time to time, so always check the small print to familiarise yourself with the rules before betting.

Spreadex Review: Key Features in Detail

We’ve already highlighted several things that make this a great online betting site, but we haven’t even scratched the surface yet. In this section of our Spreadex betting review, we take a deep dive into its key features for sports betting, including its sports, markets, odds, customer service and a whole lot more.

Spreadex Sports Betting Markets

When you first visit this site, you’ll see a handful of the main Spreadex betting markets listed on the left-hand side of the page. Those include football, tennis, cricket, baseball, and so on. However, don’t make the mistake of thinking those are the only sports that you can bet on here because they aren’t.

Roll your mouse cursor over the red All Sports tab at the top left of the screen, and you’ll see the complete list of available sports that are covered here. There are just over two dozen in total, and we’ve listed all of them below:

  • American Football
  • Australian Rules
  • Baseball
  • Basketball
  • Beach Volleyball
  • Boxing
  • Cricket
  • Cycling
  • Darts
  • E-Sports
  • Football
  • Golf
  • Greyhounds
  • Handball
  • Horse Racing
  • Ice Hockey
  • Motor Racing
  • Politics
  • Rugby League
  • Rugby Union
  • Snooker
  • Specials
  • Table Tennis
  • Tennis
  • UFC

As you can see, the range of Spreadex sports includes everything from American Football to UFC. And there are multiple markets for all of them, including plenty for Ante Post betting. We counted over 40 for just one football match, and that was a UEFA U21 Championship qualifier! Unless you’re a big fan of a minority sport, we think that this site has all the average bettor could want.

Spreadex In-Play Betting

There are plenty of opportunities for you to make a Spreadex bet on events that have already started via its numerous in-play betting markets. These are available for around 18 of the sports just mentioned, including football, cricket, basketball, golf, darts, greyhound racing, and horse racing. You can choose to view all in-play markets by sport or tap All Sports to have all live markets displayed on a single page.

Spreadex Live Streaming

As well as being able to bet on many events as they’re running, you’ll also be able to watch quite a few of them via live video streaming. To view those events, you’ll need to be logged in, so be sure to have your Spreadex sports login details handy.

Not every Spreadex sport is streamed live, and even in those that are, you won’t be able to watch any events where broadcast companies have snapped up exclusive rights. The good thing here is that when live streaming isn’t available, Spreadex will tell you where can watch the event elsewhere, such as on Sky Sports or Racing TV.

Spreadex Betting Odds

The odds offered by Spreadex are some of the best around. And it isn’t just us and most other Spreadex reviews that will tell you that. The company was named Best Value Bookie for its odds on 1X2 fixed odds markets in the 2022/23 Premier League season. Its average book value weighed in at 102.1%, giving the bookmaker an average overround of just 2.1%.

While you can’t expect such slim margins in every betting market here, you can always expect Spreadex odds to be competitive. Add in the fact that this bookie also likes to offer Price Boosts in its most popular markets, and this is a great place to be if you appreciate value betting.

Spreadex Betting Limits

There aren’t any stated maximum stakes at Spreadex. When we contacted the customer service team, we were told that while there’s a minimum stake of £1, no fixed maximum is in place. That’s good news for those of you with sizeable bankrolls, but you do need to be aware there there are maximum daily payout limits if you win.

You’ll find the full list of payout limits in the Fixed Odds Rules PDF that you can access via the Terms and Agreements page on the Spreadex website. For now, we can tell you that you can win up to £250,000 in horse racing in Great Britain and Ireland covered by a Full Service, up to £500,000 in football matches in certain leagues, and up to £100,000 in sports like darts, snooker and tennis. As always, check the rules before before betting.

Spreadex Customer Service

We mentioned a moment ago that we the contacted Spreadex customer service team with a query, and we can tell you that the staff here are both helpful and polite. They are also very easy to get in touch with. We used the Live Chat facility, which was just a case of tapping a speech bubble icon and chatting in the window that popped up as a result. However, you can also contact the Spreadex team in other ways if you’d prefer to do so. Here are your options:

Other Notable Features at Spreadex

Spreadex is a betting site that has almost every feature you could hope for. Betting odds can be viewed in fractional or decimal (but not American) formats, the virtual bet slip will automatically give you every bet option available for your selections, and the site is easy to navigate. It isn’t the most attractive, aesthetically speaking. But it’s perfect for finding markets and getting bets on quickly, which is very handy if you’re ever in a rush.

How to Start Betting at Spreadex

Before you can place a Spreadex bet, you will obviously need to sign up for an account. Doing this is very straightforward and will take you just a couple of minutes. Here’s how:

1. Visit Spreadex

First, head over to the Spreadex website by clicking the link below. Don’t worry – the betting site will open in a new tab, so you’ll still be able to read the rest of this Spreadex sports review without interruption.

2. Sign Up

Next, tap on the Join button, which is located at the top of the screen on the right-hand side.

Spreadex Review Join

You will then see a simple registration form, as shown below. Enter your name and email address, choose a username and password, and provide the other details requested.

Spreadex Review Registration

All of this information is needed by the site to create your Spreadex login credentials and also to comply with UK gambling regulations.

3. Make a Deposit

When your account has been created, head to the banking area and make your first deposit. Be sure to take another look at the terms of the Spreadex welcome offer before doing this, as you’ll want to deposit enough to take full advantage of it.

4. Place Your Bets!

You’re now ready to start betting. Explore the markets available and simply click the odds available for an outcome you’d like to bet on to add it to your bet slip. Enter how much you want to wager, submit the bet, and the stake will be deducted from your account. If your bet is successful, all winnings due to you will be credited to your account automatically – usually within minutes of the event reaching its conclusion.

Spreadex Mobile App

Those of you who enjoy betting on the move will be pleased to hear that a Spreadex sports mobile app is available for both Android and iOS devices. These can be downloaded from the Google Play store or Apple App Store, respectively.

Spreadex Betting App

Whatever version you use, you’ll find the Spreadex app to be as fully featured as the website. You can make bets, service your account, and even watch many of the events you bet on via live streaming.

Spreadex Review: Deposits and Withdrawals

Making deposits and withdrawals at Spreadex is quick and easy, but there aren’t as many payment options as at some other betting sites. You’ll therefore need to use a UK debit card, such as VISA or Switch/Maestro, make a bank transfer, or send a good old-fashioned cheque through the mail. No third-party payment methods are currently accepted, so there are no options to use Neteller or similar e-wallets.

There are no minimum deposit requirements, and you can withdraw up to £25,000 onto a card. Deposits made via debit card are usually instant. The Spreadex withdrawal time is also impressive. For card withdrawals, you could receive your cash within two hours of the withdrawal being approved. However, some card companies aren’t quite up to speed with the latest methods, in which case you’ll get your cash within two to five working days.

Spreadex Casino

As well as offering spread betting and fixed odds betting for sports, there is also a casino that you can spend time in. This isn’t a Spreadex Casino review, so we won’t go into too much detail, but we can certainly give you a quick overview of what to expect.

Spreadex Casino Review

The Spreadex Casino has a full suite of hundreds of games. These are usefully categorised so that you can navigate directly to whatever slots, roulette, blackjack and live dealer games you want to play. The providers here include NetEnt, Red Tiger, and Evolution, so you can expect to play everything from Golden Leprechaun Megaways and Lightning Roulette to Funky Time Live and Three Card Poker.

Several Football Studio live casino games can be found at Spreadex, including Football Studio Roulette and Football Studio Dice. These can be great to play when you want to have some fun while chatting about the latest match day results.

There are no special promotions available at Spreadex Casino, but that could well change in the future. A separate Spreadex Casino app is available if you’d like to play games on your mobile.

Spreadex Pros and Cons

By now we think it should be quite clear why we think that Spreadex is one of the best online betting sites around. It isn’t perfect, of course – no site is – but the pros heavily outweigh the cons, as illustrated below:

What We Like:

  • Spreadex has been around since 1999, so it’s very well-established.
  • The only site to offer both fixed odds and spread sports betting.
  • Covers over two dozen sports with multiple betting markets for each.
  • Spreadex is well-organised and easy to use, even for beginners.
  • There are great promotions available for new and existing customers.
  • The Spreadex app is as fully featured as the desktop site.
  • Customer service is fast, friendly, and easy to access.

Room For Improvement:

  • The website isn’t the most attractive that we’ve seen,
  • A few more payment options might be useful.

Spreadex Review: Final Thoughts

As professional reviewers, we have to be objective, but we won’t deny that we love Spreadex with a passion. It has all the bells and whistles that a serious sports betting enthusiast could want, its commitment to its customers is second to none, and its odds are some of the most competitive around. Pay Spreadex a visit today, and we think you’ll be glad you did.
