What is a Lucky 15 Bet?

The Lucky 15 bet was invented by Betfred co-founder Fred Done in the 1980s. It’s a very popular multiple bet that covers 4 selections for all of the following:

  • 4 single bets
  • 6 doubles
  • 4 trebles
  • 1 fourfold accumulator

That makes 15 bets in all, which is how the bet earned its name. A £1 win-only Lucky 15 would therefore cost you £15 in total. But you can also make a Lucky 15 bet each way, in which case it will cost you 30 bets in total.

The Lucky 15 is most commonly used in horse racing. But it can also be used by those who bet on football and other sports. You can even mix and match your selections to include several sports. For example, you could pick a couple of horses to win their races, a football team to win the afternoon match, and an MMA fighter to win his next bout.

One thing that makes the Lucky 15 bet so popular is that it pays out even if you only get one winner. Of course, the more winners you get, the more of your 15 bets will win. You can see what we mean in the table below:

Number of Winners Single Wins Double Wins Treble Wins Fourfold Wins
1 1 0 0 0
2 2 1 0 0
3 3 3 1 0
4 4 6 4 1

Why Use a Lucky 15 Bet Calculator?

We’ve said that a Lucky 15 comprises 15 different bets. The table just presented also shows that the number of winning bets varies according to how many winning selections you get. Both of those factors make it quite time-consuming to calculate your returns manually. You’d have to calculate the return from each of 4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles and the Lucky 15 accumulator, and then add the resulting figures together to get your total return.

How to work out Lucky 15 returns from an each-way bet (which is extremely common when betting on horse racing) is even more involved. That’s because every each-way bet is really two bets in one - the win and the place. And the place part of the bet is settled at a fraction of the odds offered for the win.

If you calculated all of this yourself you’d be fortunate not to make a mistake somewhere along the line. And that’s why we’ve provided you with a free Lucky 15 bet calculator. Simply enter the information required and it will perform all of the calculations necessary with complete accuracy. And it will do so in a fraction of a second. So you can get back to the business of betting without delay.

How to Use Our Free Lucky 15 Bet Calculator

The advantages of using our Lucky 15 bet calculator are obvious. So how do you use it to work out a Lucky 15 in practice? It’s very simple. All you have to do is follow the steps below:

  1. Select Lucky 15

Start by tapping the Lucky 15 button on the bet calculator. This will set up the parameters that are required to calculate Lucky 15 returns and your profit.
  2. Select the Odds Format

This Lucky 15 free bet calculator is designed to be as user-friendly as possible. And that’s why you can choose to enter the odds of your selections in fractional, decimal or American formats. Our advice would be to set the format so that it's the same as the one you use at your favourite online betting sites.
  3. Enter Your Lucky 15 Stake

Next, you need to enter your Lucky 15 stake. This is the sum of money that you want to stake per bet. For example, if you want to stake £1 per bet for a total outlay of £15, you’d enter £1. If you want to bet each way, simply click the Each Way selector.
  4. Enter the Odds

You can now enter the odds that you managed to get for each of your selections. Take care to be accurate here as a typo will give you false results. Our Lucky 15 bet calculator is very reliable, but it can only work on the data you give it. In other words, it won’t know whether or not you’ve entered the right odds.
  5. Select the Results

Now it’s time to provide the results for your Lucky 15 calculator bet selections. Use the pull-down Result menu alongside each selection to select Won, Placed, Dead Heat, Lost or Void. If a selection is subject to a Rule 4 deduction (something that is strictly monitored by the Gambling Commission) select the size of that deduction from the Rule 4 box.
  6. Calculate!

The final step is to tap the Calculate button. You will then be shown your Total Stake, the Total Return and the Total Profit. The Total Return tells you how much you can expect back from your bookie including your returned stake.
